چکیده

Esophageal cancer has a poor overall prognosis and is frequently diagnosed at a late stage. Conventional treatment for metastatic esophageal cancer involves chemotherapy and radiation. Local disease control plays a significant role in improving survival. Endoscopic spray cryotherapy is a novel modality that involves freezing and thawing to produce local ablation of malignant tissue via ischemic mechanisms. Spray cryotherapy has been shown to be effective, particularly for early T-stage, superficial esophageal adenocarcinomas. We present the case of a 72-year-old-male with locally recurrent stage IV esophageal adenocarcinoma and long-term survival of 7 years to date, with concurrent chemoradiation and serial cryoablation. He remains asymptomatic and continues to undergo chemotherapy and sequential cryoablation. The findings highlight the long-term safety and efficacy of cryotherapy in combination with chemoradiation, and suggest that cryoablation may have an additive role in the treatment of advanced stage esophageal adenocarcinoma.

Unintentional Long-Term Esophageal Stenting due to a Complete Response in a Patient with Stage UICC IV Adenocarcinoma of the Gastroesophageal Junction

Endoscopic stent implantation is a common short-treatment option in palliative settings in patients with esophageal cancer. Advanced disease is associated with low survival rates; therefore, data on the long-term outcome are limited. So far, cases of long-term remission or even cure of metastasized adenocarcinoma of the gastroesophageal junction or stomach (AGS) have only been reported from Asi...

Treatment of High-Grade Dysplasia and Early Stage Esophageal Adenocarcinoma with an Endoscope: The Ultimate in Minimally Invasive, Curative Therapy

There has been a radical paradigm shift away from esophagectomy as the standard of therapy for highgrade dysplasia and early esophageal cancer. A number of organ-sparing endoscopic procedures including endoscopic resection, radiofrequency ablation and cryoablation are emerging as viable and preferable options for the treatment of early esophageal neoplasia. This review article will discuss idea...

Recent advances in preoperative management of esophageal adenocarcinoma

Esophageal cancer is an aggressive malignancy with increasing incidence, and the prognosis of patients treated by surgery alone remains dismal. Preoperative treatment can modestly prolong overall survival. Preoperative chemotherapy or chemoradiation is the standard of care for resectable esophageal cancer (greater than clinical stage I and less than clinical stage IV). One of the challenges is ...

COMPARATIVE STUDY OF CHEMORADIATION AND NEOADJUV ANT CHEMOTHERAPY BEFORE RADICAL HYSTERECTOMY IN STAGE m - 1m BULKY CERVICAL CANCER AND WITH TUMOR DIAMETER GREATER THAN 4 CM

Tumor size seems to be a determinant in the prognosis of early cervical cancer. Patients with tumor size greater than 4 cm (bulky) in diameter have worse outcome.' The purpose of this study was to compare the efficacy of preoperative combined chemoradiation and neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NArC) programs followed by radical hysterectomy in stage Ib - lIb bulky cervical cancer. From September ...

Esophageal cancer.

The incidence of esophageal cancer, in particular esophageal adenocarcinoma, is increasing, largely due to an increase in risk factors for adenocarcinoma. When esophageal cancer is confirmed by upper endoscopy, staging is required for the optimal selection of patients who should undergo esophageal resection. Neoadjuvant chemoradiation may be able to improve survival after esophageal cancer surg...
